Dawn of War III launches open beta.
The newest strategy game in the Warhammer 40, 000 franchise is running an open beta from 3am AEST April 22nd to 3am AEST April 25th. Dawn of War III is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, releasing over six years after the most recent installment in the series: Dawn of War II – Retribution. Dawn of War III releases worldwide on April 27 for PC and you can sign up for the beta here.
Opinion: It’s always nice to see developers run an open beta for their multiplayer games but when it’s run so close to the game’s launch, finishing only two days before the release, it might as well just be called a demo. Nothing significant can really be changed in the time between the beta and the release of the game but it may allow them to find any major issues slightly earlier than usual. That being said, I will probably jump into this beta and see what I think of it. I haven’t played a Dawn of War game before but I have some experience in Starcraft and Warcraft that will hopefully translate over.
Friday the 13th: The Game new trailer and release date.
Gun Media and Illfonic’s survival horror multiplayer game will be releasing worldwide on May 26 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
The game pits seven players, who play as regular people, against one who plays as classic slasher villain, Jason Voorhees. The team of seven must use teamwork and the open map to their advantage in order to either defeat Jason or live through the night. Jason’s objective is to murder, with the utmost of brutality, the other players before the night is done. A single player mode is also set to be added to the game in a later update after launch.
Opinion: This game looks like it could be a ton of fun with a group of friends. As long as it’s kind of balanced and isn’t too hard for the Jason player, I could definitely see myself enjoying this if I had a group to play it with. It also looks great as a game for Youtubers or streamers to play together.
Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition launch trailer.
Bandai Namco has uploaded a launch trailer, titled “Our Curse”, for the Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition, for PS4 and Xbox One, which was just released. This is the definitive version of Dark Souls III as it includes both the Ashes of Ariandel and The Ringed City expansions. The trailer features moments from all throughout the game, including the DLC, and is accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful song, Familiar by Agnes Obel, which fits the tone of the series so well.
Opinion: If, for whatever reason, you still haven’t played Dark Souls III, this is the perfect reason for you to drop whatever you are doing and go play it now. The Souls series has been one of my favourite experiences in gaming and, apart from lacking a cutscene or something for a more definitive ending, I felt that The Ringed City was a near perfect sendoff for the series.
