Darksiders 3 Announced and Trailer Revealed.
THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games have revealed that Darksiders 3 is currently being developed for PS4, Xbox One and PC and will be released in 2018. They released a trailer today on IGN after there was a recent leak suggesting this news. The main protagonist for the game will be the horsewoman of the Apocalypse, Fury. Previous protagonists were War and Death in Darksiders 1 and 2 respectively. Fury appears to use a whip and magic as her main weapons as opposed to some of the giant weapons previously seen in other games. The trailer revealed that the villains will be monster forms of the Seven Deadly Sins but no gameplay was shown in the trailer.
Opinion: I’ve never been a big fan of the series but I’m glad that it will be continuing after the collapse of THQ. The game is being developed by Gunfire Games which contains many of the staff who made the previous games whose studio had been shutdown when THQ went bankrupt. I’m glad to see that the new THQ Nordic are committed to keeping this series alive.
Yooka-Laylee will be receiving an update with improvements and polish.
In an update on their website, Playtonic Games have announced that an update will soon be released to address some of the issues that were present in their game, Yooka-Laylee. Skipping dialogue and cutscenes, reducing the gibberish voices, general polish and improvements to the camera controls. No timetable has been announced for the release of this update.
Opinion: This is great news that will improve the game for some people. The camera could be a real pain at times and it is good to see Playtonic being receptive to the feedback of their customers. The gibberish voices are an acquired taste so toning them down will be appreciated too and speedrunners will be very happy that cutscenes and dialogue can be skipped. Overall, good to see that they are intent on listening to feedback and improving their game.
New Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy footage released.
A new level from the upcoming Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has been released, showcasing the Sewer or Later level from Crash Bandicoot 2. The video shows a full clear of the level, showing the secret pathway and collecting all crates. The music seems to have been remastered too but it does sound slightly remixed. The remaster will be available on June 30.
Opinion: This is probably my most anticipated release of the year right now. I am a huge Crash Bandicoot fan and I really believe that the old games still hold up very well today (except for the crate mechanics in the first game). I am very happy with what I see here as his movement looks very similar to the weightiness of Crash in the old games which is something that I needed to see. The Wrath of Cortex follow up to the trilogy lost the feel that Crash had and felt too light and airy which meant that it just didn’t feel like a Crash game. This looks much better and I’m excited by all the improvements that Vicarious Visions are bringing to the game such as relics being added to the first two games. Currently my only issue is that the remaster looks a bit washed out and not as vibrant as the original games. I know that there is all kinds of fancy lighting that can be done now but I don’t think it looks as stylish as the originals. Also the gems and crystals definitely need more colour added to them. I know its a tiny nitpick but the yellow gem platform just looks so meh. Regardless, very excited for the release of this game.
