Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus has been announced and will be released on October 27, 2017. The game is being developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda. It is a followup to Wolfenstein: The New Order and takes place in 1960s America that has been overrun by German Nazi’s in an alternate history. Main character BJ is returning to help liberate America from the Nazi rule.
Bethesda has been on a bit of a hot streak with their first person shooters lately with both Wolfenstein and Doom receiving overwhelming critical acclaim for bringing life back to the genre. Wolfenstein has a focus on story and single player content which flies in the face of modern FPS conventions. The sequel looks to have an interesting setting and while the gunplay looked entertaining, it was the world building that stuck with me the most from what I’ve seen so far. The game will be releasing on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Opinion: Firstly I’d just like to point out that Nelson was spot on with his predictions for Bethesda’s E3 showing with Wolfenstein 2 and The Evil Within 2 being their main showing at this year’s event.
Now that the patting ourselves on the back is done, this looks like a great game. I did not play the first one but Nelson raved about how great it was. I joined in with Doom and that was such a refreshing game in the land of bland modern/future shooters. I loved the focus on story that they have showcased here and it was smart of them to demonstrate this. Shooting guns is fun but 10 other games will come out before the release that do the same thing. This is a narrative based shooter and it sets itself apart as a result.
I’d also just like to point out how great graphics can be these days. I’m not one who normally cares about visuals but it just looked incredible. It almost looks too good and too smooth in the shooting sections. There are some very talented people out there. This game is one to look out for.
