In an interview with IGN, Insomniac’s creative director Bryan Intihar put to rest fears that the new PS4 Spider-Man game would heavily feature quick-time events. The game looked very exciting from the gameplay shown at E3, but there were quite a few of the QTEs that have come to plague the games industry over the last few decades. Thankfully, Intihar has suggested that they will only be used for blockbuster moments such as the crane scene shown in the gameplay above.
This is understandable as it would be very difficult to replicate such a complex set piece using traditional controls. The Uncharted series features scenes such as this but Drake is often in the position of running away or just hanging on for dear life. Spider-Man has to focus on keeping civilians safe and as a result, it would be a nightmare to feature player steering the character around. This seems reasonable and the crane set piece did look very exciting. Let’s just hope they aren’t used like this:
