According to Christopher Dring of GamesIndustry has announced that the Crash Bandicoot trilogy remaster has had the biggest first week sales of any game released so far this year in the UK.
Opinion: This will hopefully serve as a wake-up call to the games industry as it feels as if it has been decided that single player games and especially platformer games just don’t sell. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy. If you make great games people will buy them and I have a feeling that a lot of people had been craving a game like this to be released. Just from what I’ve seen firsthand, most of my friends on PS4 picked up this game. While these sales may just be due to nostalgia I’m predicting a little bit of a resurgence in the platformer genre. While not exactly the same type of game, Yooka Laylee was a start and A Hat in Time looks promising. Hopefully we see some bigger publishers make a move away from “realism” and get back to what made games fun.
