EVO 2017 news recap.

Announcements from Arika, Capcom, Square Enix, Arc System Works and Bandai Namco.

As the biggest fighting game tournament of the year comes to a close, we’re left with some awesome news from almost all of the main developers of the games featured at EVO.

Skullomania and Darun Mister announced for Fighting Layer EX!

Arika released a trailer for their new fighting game which announced the return of grappler Darun and, one of the most requested characters to return to fighting games, Skullomania. Arika also announced that there would be a beta test at the end of 2017 and that the game will be releasing worldwide in 2018, possibly on April Fools’ Day.

Jedah from Darkstalkers revealed for Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite.

After the nail-biting Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 finals, Combofiend and Filipino Champ played an exhibition match of MvC:I. Combofiend first showed off the first gameplay of Gamora, who uses a mix of guns and swords to cover all ranges. Combofiend then went back to character select to reveal Jedah who looks absolutely sick. From what I can see, Jedah looks like he’ll have a strong mix up game with his projectiles that linger on the screen for a while.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT closed beta announced.

Square Enix gave everyone who attended EVO this year a closed beta key for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. To register for a beta key and for more information, click here.

Dragon Ball FighterZ Trunks gameplay reveal.

After being announced about a month ago, we finally have some gameplay of Trunks. The trailer shows off some of his most iconic moves such as his Burning Attack, and the sword attacks he used to kill Frieza and Android 14. I am definitely playing this character.

BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle announced.

Arc System Works are just the fighting game developers that keep on giving. Cross Tag Battle is a 2v2 versus fighting game that mixes characters from Blazblue, Persona 4 Arena, Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late [st], and RWBY.

BlazBlue: Central Fiction finally adds Jubei to the roster.

Jubei, a popular BlazBlue character that has been around, but not playable, since the first BlazBlue, is finally joining the series as a playable character. Jubei is set to release this season.

Geese Howard joins Tekken 7!

Geese Howard, the famous villain of the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters games, has been revealed as the newest guest character for Tekken 7. Apparently Heihachi is so evil he has villains from multiple other games coming after him now. Geese, who comes out in December, features his classic Reppu Ken and counter moves that he is so famous for. PREDICTABLE!

Street Fighter V’s newest character is Abigail.

Abigail is a titan of a character who first appeared as a boss in Final Fight. Capcom really weren’t kidding when they said that he’s the size of two Kens; he’s absolutely huge. He appears to have big body/grappler style moves with command grabs, armoured moves, counters and running attacks. I definitely get vibes of Hugo and Haggar from Abigail. He’ll be available to download on July 25th.
